Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Traditionally, stepwells served two key purposes - as a place to store water, and a place for resting. Stepwells are designed in such a way that very little sunlight actually enters the lower levels which keeps them cool during the day time. The same is no different at Adalaj Stepwell. It is believed that villagers would come everyday in the morning to fill water, offer prayers to the deities carved into the walls and interact with each other in the cool shade.
