DescriptionAcocks Green Station (platforms 1 & 2).jpg |
This is Acocks Green Station on Sherbourne Road in Acocks Green. There was rail replacement buses when I took these, so wonder if there was no trains running? The present building dates from 1907, but there has been an Acocks Green Station since 1852. It was on the Birmingham & Oxford Railway. This station was originally called Acocks Green & South Yardley Station, as it is half way between South Yardley and Acocks Green. Currently it is used by Chiltern Railways (London to Birmingham) and London Midland (Leamington Spa to Worcester). The station preceding it is Tyseley, and following it is Olton. Acocks Green was built for the community to allow the residents access to the industrialised Birmingham areas. Although never having a good yard, Acocks Green boasted 4 platforms with a loop line on the Northbound slow line. BR rationalization led to removal of the slow lines (and loop) in both directions and demolition of most of the platform to build the small car park.
