Description Introduced, warm season, perennial climber with stems usually greater than 100 cm long. Leaves are 6–10 cm long and hastate, with petioles at least as long as laminae. Flowerheads are large, with flowers in few-flowered whorls. Fruit have three distinct longitudinal ridges and are straw-coloured at maturity, occasionally with pink or purplish tinges. A native of South Africa, it is cultivated, and naturalized especially in waste areas near towns.
