Description

One of our favourite bridges: not least because the restaurants where we had dinner were not far from the other end of the bridge! The Accademia Bridge on the Grand Canal was initially built on a temporary basis out of wood in 1932 to replace a 19th century iron bridge. It remained in its place because of popularity. They are now apparently <a href="http://venice-travel.blogspot.com/2009/05/venice-opens-bids-for-new-bridge.html" target="_blank">planning to replace it</a>.

The area around the Accademia Bridge is home to the Accademia galleries and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. The Accademia galleries house some of the best Venetian art, including Titian, Tintoretto, Bellini and Giambono. We didn't go to the Peggy Guggenheim since we're not great fans of much modern art.
