Description

Acanthurus bahianus Castelnau, 1855 - ocean surgeonfish.

Ocean surgeonfish are a type of doctorfish. Their bodies are often grayish to bluish gray, sometimes with yellowish tails and pectoral fins. A whitish vertical band is often present at the base of the tail, with a dark blue-colored spine just anterior to that.

Classification: Animalia, Chordata, Vertebrata, Actinopterygii, Perciformes, Acanthuridae

Locality: landward of Snapshot Reef, Fernandez Bay, offshore western San Salvador Island, eastern Bahamas
