Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A polygon with eight sides is called an octagon.  The yellow regular octagon is convex.  It contains another regular octagon that is not convex:  a regular star octagon.  The black dashed segments are its shortest diagonals.  They are also the sides of a third regular octagon with center T,  this one is convex.  Its dashed boundary is divided up by each side of the star octagon into 3 and 5 segments.  So the star octagon is denoted by {8;3} in Schläfli notation.  Convex regular octagons are denoted by {8;1}.  Two regular octagons are similar if they are convex.  Regular star octagons also are similar.
