[edit]DescriptionAcadem PlatonicDodecahedron EquatorialRegularHexagons.svg |
English: Perspective of a platonic dodecahedron by orthographic projection onto a plane. φ is the golden ratio. The edge length is a as in this image, where some colors are the same. Thanks to the colors of the faces we recognize the points of the figure, and we can still denote points by letters, despite the absence of letters. The drawing of the solid is the same in this other image, where points are denoted by letters.
R is a vertex of the solid, Ω is its center. Ω is depicted like (RΩ ), which is parallel to the sight direction. Whatever the sense of the rotation, one third of a turn around a straight line passing through a vertex and Ω transforms the solid into itself. Any cross section perpendicular to the axis of rotation is also left unchanged upon undergoing such a rotation. The view does not distort a cross section perpendicular to (RΩ ), a regular hexagon with red sides. Another cross section is drawn, a regular hexagon distorted by the perspective. Each cross section is parallel to six edges. Both hexagons have the same size in three-dimensional space. Their vertices are the midpoints of six edges of the solid.
