Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Abstraction Dam across the Allt Leachdach My assumption is that this is a dam used to divert water from the Allt Leachdach into the Loch Treig/Fort William Smelter pipeline but I would be gratful if anyone could supply further information.

There are many industrial remains in the area, mainly concrete plinths for buildings, access roads etc, also the remains of a drag line on the slope immediately above the dam for hoisting heavy items.

The dam can be reached by means of a stair and a walkway at a small monument at the end of the track at 260765.

It is a fascinating place as you can hear the water rush beneath you in the pipe which also doubles as a walkway in the foreground of the 'photo.

Please be careful if you visit here as the sides of the narrow gorge are steep and slippery and the water is deep and fast flowing.
