A.P. The crossing wasordered for June 9th; but on the 8th, GeneralLee having sent Jenkinss brigade as Ewellsadvance into the valley, reviewed the otherfive brigades of Stuart, 10,292 combatants, onthe plains near Brandy Station. After thereview they were distributed in the neighbor-hood with a view to their crossing the Rap-pahannock on the 9th, Stuart establishing hisheadquarters at Meet wood. Accident hadthus disposed his forces in the most favorablemanner to meet Heasontons convergingmovements. At daybreak Buford crossed and drove theenemys pickets from the ford back to the mainbody, near St. Jamess church.
