The rear of Sumners corps, Richardsonsdivision, crossed the bridge at ten oclock inthe morning, destroyed it, and took positionsome distance on Smiths left, nearly in linewith him. Both divisions guarded the crossing. After the fight at Savages Station was over,Hazzards battery of Richardsons divisionwas unhitched, its captain not supposing therewas to lie any further movement that night,and the men and horses went to sleep, as usualwhen there was opportunity, which was notoften in those days.
