Summary
[edit]DescriptionAberystwyth Promenade - Start of Aberystwyth to Borth coastal path - geograph.org.uk - 1166311.jpg |
English: Aberystwyth Promenade - Start of Aberystwyth to Borth coastal path. A view towards Constitution Hill with the Cliff Railway and Camera Obscura tower being visible. The promenade is the logical starting point for those contemplating walking the coastal path from Aberystwyth to Borth and beyond. The path forms part of the Ceredigion Coastal Path http://www.ceredigioncoastpath.org.uk/index.htm which runs from Cardigan SN177458 to Ynyslas SN609940 a total of about 60 miles and in 2001 was granted European Objective 1 funding for upgrading the whole route. The section from Aberystwyth to Borth is just under 6 miles with particular points of interest being at Constitution Hill SN584827, Clarach Bay SN586837 (if you can ignore the holiday camp!), Wallog SN590857, the majestic cliffs at Craig y Delyn SN595876 and the magnificently situated Borth War Memorial SN601885. Logistics are straightforward as there is an hourly bus service or a two-hourly train service to return you from Borth to Aberystwyth at the completion of the walk. If you are fortunate, you may even find the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway is running to allow you to cheat (as I did!) and save the climb up Constitution Hill.
The path is very well defined for its whole length with some quite stiff hill-climbing and with magnificent views from precipitous cliff-top paths so take care in slippery conditions. I did see people walking the route in trainers and even one in wellington boots - not to be recommended! |
