Summary
[edit]DescriptionAberdare (Low Level) geograph-2571066-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg |
English: Abercynon branch train at Aberdare (Low Level). View southward, towards Abercynon etc.: ex-Taff Vale, later GWR terminus of the line from Abercynon. '6400' 0-6-0PT No. 6417 (built 12/34) was a light auto-fitted Pannier for light passenger work such as this, mainly in South Wales. The station is behind the camera: it was closed to passengers on 16/3/64, along with the service from Abercynon and in 6/64 also the Vale of Neath line through Aberdare (High Level) ceased, but freight continued, including through the connection with the VofN line as far as Hirwaun and Tower Colliery and in 8/73 a new line with a bridge over the River Cynon was built to facilitate this traffic, which ceased as recently 1/08. In 10/88, a passenger service was reinstated up the Cynon Valley from Aberynon and this now uses the rebuilt High Level station at Aberdare. |
