Español: Abell 39 nebulosa planetaria en Hercules

Abell 39 Es una nebulosa planetaria de bajo brillo superficial situada a unos 7.000 años luz en la constelación Hercules. Es una esfera casi perfecta con un tamaño de 5 años luz de diámetro, formada por los gases expulsados hace unos 22.000 años por la estrella central en sus últimos estadios de vida. La estrella central tiene 0,6 masas solares que es insuficiente para la formación de una supernova por lo que evoluciona hacia enana blanca pasando por fases muy calientes con una temperatura de 150.000 K, su luminosidad en el ultravioleta excita los átomos de óxigeno de la nube ionizándolos, por fluorescencia brillan en tonos verdes azulados. Se desconoce el mecanismo por el que la estrella se encuentra ligeramente desplazada del centro de la nebulosa.
