English: WIPO Director General Daren Tang (center) received on October 8, 2021, the instrument of accession of Saudi Arabia to the Nairobi Treaty on the Protection of the Olympic Symbol from Ambassador Abdulaziz Al-Wasil (right), Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, and Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Swailem, Chief Executive Officer, Saudi Authority for IP (SAIP).
Saudi Arabia becomes the 54th contracting party to the Nairobi Treaty. All States party to the Nairobi Treaty are under the obligation to protect the Olympic symbol – five interlaced rings – against use for commercial purposes (in advertisements, on goods, as a mark, etc.) without the authorization of the International Olympic Committee. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Assemblies of WIPO Member States, which met from October 4 to October 8, 2021.
