Description Heute wird die Architektur des alten Linzer Eisenbahnviadukts wieder als schön empfunden, Zeitgenossen hingegen gefiel überhaupt nicht, wie es sich „mit seinen massigen Bögen vor das Städtchen stemmte“. Und so hielt sich das Bedauern auch in engen Grenzen, als das alte Viadukt (bis auf die Pfeiler) 1931/32 abgerissen werden musste, da die Tragfähigkeit der Gewölbe den ständig steigenden Verkehrslasten nicht mehr genügte. „Linz endlich wieder am Rhein!“ titelte die Rhein-und-Wied-Zeitung am 21. November 1933 und lobte den neuen (heutigen) Bau in den höchsten Tönen: „Nunmehr steht die moderne Eisenbahnbrücke frank und frei in ihrer klaren, aufgeschlossenen Gliederung, ihren lichten, hellen Durchgängen vor der Stadtfront. Man hat nicht mehr das Gefühl der Trennung von Stadt und Ufer. Eine künstliche Stadtmauer ist gefallen. Unzweifelhaft hat die Stadt in ihrem Rheinbild erheblich gewonnen.“
