Description
English: As a result of King Philip's War, the only original house standing is the interesting Roger Mowry tavern, built in 1653 or earlier, called also the Whipple or Abbott house. Guarded by a large elm, it stands on Abbott Street, which runs eastward from North Main. The town council met there, and tradition says Williams conducted prayer-meetings in it. Engraving from 1872 book.
