Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Abbey Bridge, near Egglestone Abbey, Barnard Castle. An old toll bridge over the River Tees downstream from Barnard Castle, built in 1773. Although the approach from the north is very narrow and controlled by lights, all lorry traffic between Barnard Castle and points south uses this bridge, as heavy vehicles are banned from the bridge in Barnard Castle itself. A painting of the bridge made in 1791 hangs in the Bowes Museum.
