The Hotel Nacional is a hotel located in the old town of Montevideo. It was built on the initiative of Emilio Reus in 1888. It opened in 1890. The architect was Juan Tosi. It integrated a Medical and Hydrothermal-Therapeutic complex located in the south of the Old City. The complex was not inaugurated by the crisis of 1890. The building was the headquarters of the University of the Republic, first of the faculty of Mathematics and Architecture, and later the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences. It is a national historical monument since 1996. It is currently vacant although there are plans to reform it.
