Description
Español: Cartel informativo de la antiguas escuelas del barrio de Mendiola en Abadiño , País Vasco (España). Una de las 119 escuelas de barriada construidas por la Diputación Foral de Vizcaya entre 1920 y 1936 para reducir el elevado índice de analfabetismo de la población rural. La de Mendiola fue la escuela número 47, y la construyeron en "auzolan" (trabajo comunitario) los propios vecinos de Mendiola y Sagasta con materiales locales. Concluida en 19 de septiembre 1923, permaneció activa desde su fundación hasta el año 1987. Durante el primer curso escolar, 1923-1924, la escuela estuvo cerrada una semana en febrero a causa de la gripe. El Ayuntamiento de Abadiño aprobó el 19 de septiembre de 1920 la edificación de este centro, siendo alcalde Federico Santorcuato y secretario Emilio Basterrechea. Las dos últimas maestras fueron Julene Azpeitia y Feliziana Astorkia; y la última, Mila Berrioateortua, con el siguiente grupo de escolares: Jaione Urien., Igor Garate, Aritz Areizaga, Unai Macias, Ibai Urien, Gotzone Ania y Asier Zabala. En 1998 se transformó en sede de la asociación vecinal Errkatxo, muchos de cuyos miembros son antiguos alumnos de la escuela
