Title
A worn and incomplete cast copper-alloy flanged axe.
Description
English: A worn and incomplete cast copper-alloy flanged axe of Early Bronze Age date. It is missing most of the cutting edge of the blade, and the centre of one of the flanges due to old breaks, all surfaces demonstrate signs of extensive copper-alloy corrosion and post-depositional damage. The blade end is crescentic in form, flaring to either side of the axe, the cutting edge mostly missing due to old breaks. It has a flat, rectangular body that gradually tapers towards the butt end and lacks a stop ridge. On each side are developed flanges that are oval shaped in profile and extend to the butt end. One flange has suffered from extensive post-depositional damage that has resulted in the entire central area of the flange being removed. In places both faces have traces of a pale copper coloured patina, particularly towards the butt end. This axe measures 111.58mm in length, 61mm in width at blade, 17.46mm in width at butt end, 6.88mm in thickness, and weighs 165.48g.

This is a worn flanged axe of Bronze Age date. It shares some similarities with axes of Arreton type, although differs through the presence of well developed flanges to either side. It dates to the later stages of the Early Bronze Age, c.1700-1400 BC.
