Summary
[edit]DescriptionA window back to the past^ - geograph.org.uk - 1358764.jpg |
English: Sewerby, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. A window back to the past! This photo shows the imprint of a fossilised sponge in the chalk of the Flamborough Sponge beds (the geological name given to the formation although not actually sited at Flamborough!) near Sewerby (the stick is for size comparison). This is a renowned location for specimens of fossilised sponges and sea-urchins, among other fossils of the Chalk, dating back 75 million years to the Cretaceous. |
