Summary

[edit]
Description A round pit inside one of the cave houses. Round pits such as this are thought to have been used for corn storage. Some of the cave houses have a similar large circular pit outside, which is believed to have been used either for grain storage or for sacrificial purposes. Some pits were also described as a hidden receptacle for the orchestra in caves identified as theatres. I thought the green colour was paint, but my guides assured me that that was the natural rock colour. Surprising, it was far too dry to be lichen either. (Uplistsikhe, Georgia, Sept. 2016)
