a few public spi-rited and literary young men, the institution wasreorganised, and the whole establishment placedon a footing, at once consistent with the impor-tance of its object, as well as creditable to thecity itself. The number of members is consi-derable, and comprises the names of many re-spectable and intelligent individuals. Lectureson science and general literature, are deliveredalternately, with discussions on moral and histo-rical subjects.) Proceeding still westward, on the left hand, isJury, or rather Jewry-lane, for the Jews wereformerly settled here, and had a school, or syna-gogue, till they were expelled the kingdom byking Edward I. and their houses seized by him.
