Among them may be named, Favourite EnglishPoems, published by Low and Co., in 1859 ; Ehymes and Roundelayes,Jioutledge, 1858; Goldsmiths Poetical Works; and Lockharts SpanishBallads, published by Murray. The present specimen is from BohnsIllustrated edition of Longfellows Poems, in which the Miles Standishis chiefly illustrated by the designs of Mr. Absolon, and entirely engravedby Me. Thomas Bolton, an artist of considerable repute, whose nameappears in many of the books quoted in these pages, and among others,in the Poems and Songs of Eobert Burns. Mr. Bolton has just invented a process by which the powers ofphotography may be applied direct to the production of subjects fromnature or art on wood, and from which the engraving can be made with-out the intervention of drawing.
