Lateral curvature of the spine is a deformity,not a disease, nor is it in the ordinary cases an effect of disease.For this reason the description of the pathology which is merelya more detailed account of the deformity and of its secondaryeffects upon the trunk and its contents may, for convenience,ede tie- discussion of the etiology. LATERAL CURVATURE OF THE SPINE. Id In such a description one must consider the spine as a whole, acolumn bent and twisted, in which each component segment bearsits share of the general distortion. The vertebra at the apex ofeach curve shows the greatest change. If the rotation and lateraldeviation is to the rio-ht the vertebral bodv is somewhat wedge-shaped, the apex of the wedge being directed backward and tothe left.
