Title
A thimble shaped lead alloy possible weight
Description
English: A lead alloy possible weight, probably dating from the post medieval period. The object appears to have been cast or shaped in a thimble. It is a tapered cylinder of lead with a slightly domed top which is 15.94mm long and has a diameter of 14.44mm. There are also small indentations in the top, arranged in concentric circles. The base of the weight is rough and there is a deep hole in one side. The lead object was almost certainly made in a thimble which has produced the pattern on the top, but for what function is unclear. It may be a novelty piece made for no particular reason. However, the shape of the thimble, which is tall and slender, suggests a post medieval date. The object has a white patina.
