.Each of the radiating pipes is set with a fall from the regula-ting-cock end to the eccentric T piece e; it also has a fallbackwards from its end y to this same T. Thus, these pipesrun downwards toward the valve u from either end of the car. 69. Action and Advantages.—In (d), Fig. 24, is shownthe regulating cock in three positions; the views are takenlooking sideways at the apparatus when in position in the car;in fact, they correspond to view (6). The upper illustrationof (d) shows the position of the cock handle when steam is shutoff from both pipes. Heating a Cold Train.—See that all the steam hoseare coupled up, and then open wide all the train-pipe cocks.Turn on the steam and blow out all condensation from thetrain pipes. Then shut the rear train-pipe cock, to preventfurther escape of steam. The heat is regulated by means of the valves in the radiatingpipes.
