Summary
[edit]DescriptionA slime mould - Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa - geograph.org.uk - 1468765.jpg |
English: A slime mould - Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa. The white incrustation on this tree stump is a very extensive development of the spore-producing stage of the slime mould species Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa (var. fruticulosa); for an example of the same species in close-up, see: 922184
This was the largest patch of this species that I had ever encountered (for the finer details, use the "more sizes" link to see a much larger version of this photograph). Weather conditions had apparently been ideal for its development, because, on the same day that I took this photo, I encountered an example of the earlier plasmodial stage of the same species: 923285. |
