Title
A single view of a furnishing stud.
Description
English: The object is a decorative stud. It is made from cast copper alloy, has a domed head which is pointed oval shaped in plan. A stud protrudes from the reverse of the head. The total width of the stud from point to point is 26.3mm. The length of the studas it is bent and the apex of the head together is 6.8mm. The stud weighs 2.78g.

The stud has a pointed oval shaped domed head which is undecorated except for a shiny grey coating, either tinning or silvering. The reverse of the head is concave. Protruding from the centre of the reverse is an integral stud which is square in section. The stud tapers to a broken point. It is also bent to one side so that the lower portion of the stud is horizontal.

The surface of the stud has traces of red copper corrosion, otherwise the surface is slightly pitted.

Margeson suggests similar type of studs were popular in the 16th to 17th centuries to decorate furnishings.
