Title
A side view of a cast copper alloy domed thimble, dating to the 14th/ 15th century AD.
Description
English: A complete cast copper alloy domed thimble (length: 16.9mm; diameter at base: 19.1mm; thickness: 1.1mm; weight: 5.13g). Stamped or hammered into shape with thick walls, this thimble has irregular and uneven concentric and circular indentations around the outside, spiralling down from the top to just above the rimmed base. This artefact was probably used for heavy duty work, and dates from the 14th/ 15th century AD. It is in a worn but fair condition with a dark brown patina and small areas of bronze disease at the base.
