There are five important and distinct buildings upon theplatform; four on the central terrace. These buildings are the palaces of Darius, Xerxes, andArtaxerxes III., the Hall of Audience, and the EasternEdifice. PERSIAN ART 35 Type of Building The type of all the buildings is very much the same. Asquare hall with a roof supported by four, sixteen, thirty-six,or a hundred pillars, is surrounded by smaller rooms or cor-ridors and porticos.
