| Description |
English: A reservoir dammed behind the internal tramway causeway at Blaen-y-Cwm Quarry. Operations at the three quarries, Rhiwbach, Blaen-y-cwm and Cwt-y-Bugail, were constantly hampered by the lack of an adequate water supply. This was the main reason why steam engines were preferred to waterwheels. Blaen-y-cwm created this now almost infilled reservoir to turn a waterwheel which was housed at the south end of the mill. This was however soon replaced by a coal-fired steam engine.
