ration, give a highsoapsuds enema, followed by a douche of bi-chlorid solution, 1 : 8000. Send a specimen ofurine to the laboratory. Two hours before opera-tion remove the abdominal dressing and paint theskin of the abdomen from costal border to sym-physis and flank to flank with tincture ofiodin, 5 per cent. Apply a fresh dressing ofsterile gauze and a sterile straight binder. Asthe time for operation approaches dress thepatient in sterile clothes, wrap in a sterile sheet,lift her upon the stretcher, and wheel to theoperating-room. The Major Operating Suite.—The majoroperating suite comprises the following rooms:operating-room, etherizing-room, sterilizing-room,supply-room, doctors dressing-room, scrubbing-room, and bath-room. These rooms are situatedon the top floor of the hospital, away from the noiseand dust of the street. The floor is coveredwith white metile, the walls with white glazedtile to a height of four feet; the walls above thisand the ceiling are painted with white enamelpaint. A door at one end of the room opens intothe hall; one at the opposite end opens into thescrubbing-room. (See Plate II.)
