Summary
[edit]DescriptionA railway cutting in Snape Wood - geograph.org.uk - 1734012.jpg |
English: A railway cutting in Snape Wood South Eastern Railway built the line to Hastings from London in 3 stages. 1845 the line to Tunbridge Wells opened & in 1851 the line to Robertsbridge opened. The next year (1852) the line was extended to its final destination Hastings. The line was built very quickly (& not very well) & several of the tunnels need constant maintenance even today. This is one of many cuttings on the line as is makes its way through the Sussex countryside. |
