PLATE XXXIII. PLATE XXXIV. SYPHILIS OF THE FEMUR—CALCAREOU S HEGENERATION OF THE POPLITEALARTERY—PRESENCE OF A PHLEBOLITH IN THE POPLITEAL VEINS. The normal shadow of the femur is replaced by the darker shadow ofosteo-sclerosis. Its outline is rough and presents irregularities. The popliteal artery has undergone calcareous degeneration, and isvisible in its whole course throughout the skiagram. The small oval shadow behind the femoral condyle is a phlebolith inone of the popliteal veins.

Tlie darker shadow of the bone, its rough outline presenting irregu-larities, forms a typical picture. Evidence is also present of destruction of bone, with loss of substanceand of suppuration, with secondary involvement of the soft parts.
