Title
A profile and plan view of a Medieval thimble.
Description
English: The object is a double-skinned late Medieval thimble made from copper alloy. Holmes illustrates similar examples in figure 2.

The shape of the thimble is that it has straight, but slightly tapering sides to a rounded top, however the top does have a slight point at the apex. The rim is sub-circular in plan. The rim also clearly shows the double skin of the thimble. The exterior of the rim is undecorated and has a linear groove above it.

The indentations start above this groove. They are small conical shaped, which varies slightly in size. They have been positioned in columns, however, the columns start to distort as the top of the thimble becomes curved.

The surface of the thimble has occasional pitting on the outer skin, but there are large areas of a dark green patina.

The thimble measures 25.1mm tall, 23.7mm wide and 21.2mm thick at the base. It weighs 13.31g.
