Title |
a post medieval thimble |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper alloy, post medieval thimble, probably dating from the seventeenth or eighteenth century, AD1600-1800. The sides taper slightly to a rounded top which is separated from the main body by a narrow band of plain metal without any holes. The holes on both body and top are small, round and machine made. The rim of the thimble is plain, except for a narrow groove immediately below the last row of holes. The rim itself is damaged, being ragged owing to a number of missing pieces, and any other decoration, if it once existed, is now missing. The thimble has a smooth, dark green patina. It is 22.1mm high and 18.2mm in diameter. It weighs 4.11gm.
