Title |
a post medieval silver thimble |
||
Description |
English: A damaged (flattened) silver thimble probably dating from the eighteenth or nineteenth century, 1700-1900. It appears to be a two-piece thimble, the top having been made separately and soldered on to the body. There is a narrow, raised band of small, circular indentations running around the lower part of the body just above the base, but no other mark or decoration. The crown of the thimble is, however, decorated with an oval tonsure containing a number of lines radiating from a tiny central annulet. There are no hallmarks visible. In its current condition the thimble is 25mm long, 23.4mm wide and 8.2mm thick. It weighs 5.72gm.
The characteristics of this thimble indicate that it is less than 300 years old and it has therefore not been considered as treasure. |
