Title
A post medieval copper alloy thimble dating to the 18th century.
Description
English: A post medieval copper alloy thimble dating to the 18th century. The thimble would likely have had slightly tapering sides from the base to the crown, but due to the object being distorted it is difficult to know for certain. There is a slight lip at the base. The thimble is decorated with circular drilled indentations. The indentations form a pattern of concentric circles radiating from the peak to the base of the thimble. There is a small band just above the lip of the base without indentations. The thimble has been damaged at the point where the body means the peak, with further damage at the base.

The thimble is in the same style as the 18th century English or Dutch type III thimbles found in Holmes (1988, 4, fig 7c). However, Type III thimbles tend to have a waffle pattern on the dome (ibid, 3) so this is likely and English derivative.

Dimensions: height: 19.39 mm; thickness: 1.04 mm; diameter at dome: 12.92 mm; weight: 2.62g.
