Title |
A post-Medieval hooked tag |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper alloy, openwork, dress hook dating from the post-Medieval period, about AD 1500 - 1600. The body is circular and carries a design of a plain cross with a central, raised pellet. Each angle of the cross is pierced with four small, circular holes. On the upper part of the body are the remains of a rectangular attachment loop, most of which has broken away and is missing. The curved hook depending from the lower part of the body has also broken away and is missing. The tag has a rough, light green patina. It is 19.8mm long, 16mm wide and 1.6mm thick. It weighs 1.39gm.
Similar tags are illustrated in Egan, 2005, Material Culture in London in an Age of Transition, page 44. |
