Title
A post-Medieval cast copper alloy pot foot and part of the leg dating to c.AD 1500-1700.
Description
English: A post-Medieval cast copper alloy pot foot and part of the leg dating to c.AD 1500-1700. The leg and foot are D-shaped in section with a flat back and convex front; the leg is broken off above a transverse collar with an old break. The prominent collar is rounded in section, with the remaining section of leg running below it, which has a prominent central rib flanked by a smaller rib either side. The base of the leg flares downwards into a hoofed foot which is rounded due to being very worn.

The leg is a dark grey/brown colour and abraded.

It measures 37.4mm long, 26.5mm wide, 16.2mm thick and weighs 64.14 grams.

Cast copper alloy vessels were widely used from AD 1200 to 1700 for serving and cooking. Legs and feet are the most commonly recorded finds and Butler et al (2009, 4) suggest there were four main types of leg used. This is an example of Type C which they suggest was already in use by the 16th century and was almost universal in the 17th century.
