Title
A post-Medieval apothecaries weight
Description
English: A copper alloy apothecaries' weight dating from the Post-Medieval period, about AD 1600 - 1900. It is flat and rectangular in plan. Both faces are stamped with an apothecaries' symbol, probably for two drachms, though it is difficult to be certain of this value as damage sustained while in the soil has partially obscured the symbol and caused some weight loss. The weight has a smooth, dark brown patina. It is 17.7mm long, 16mm wide and 3.9mm thick. It weighs 6.22gm. A two drachm weight would be expected to have a mass of 7.78g.
