Title |
A pair of medieval knife end-caps (terminals) |
||
Description |
English: A pair of sheet copper-alloy end-caps from medieval scale-tang knives. The objects are sub-triangular in shape with central rectangular slots with rounded corners. They both seem to have a transverse incision towards the wider end. On the shorter example the sides are incurved above the line. There is a further incised line towards the narrow terminal on this example. Both artefacts have been bent, particularly around the terminals. They now have a largely light/mid-dark green patina. Such end-caps tend to be given a 15th-century date, although they could be slightly earlier.
They have the following dimensions: (shorter) L.: 31.7mm, max. W.: 9.85mm, Th.: 0.8mm, Wt.: 1.16g (longer) L.: 37.9mm, max. W.: 8.65mm, Th.: 1.9mm, Wt.: 1.76g |
