Title |
a pair of Roman or Early Medieval tweezers |
||
Description |
English: A pair of copper alloy tweezers. They are constructed from a thick strip of copper alloy sheet, folded in the centre to create a rounded suspension loop, and have a pair of blades tapering outwards to slightly flared ends. The ends are curved inwards at a 45 degree angle like pincers. There is no decoration. Tweezers of this design are difficult to date precisely and were in use from Roman to Medieval times. They have a patchy, light green patina.and are 55.7mm long, 6.7mm wide and 5.9mm thick. They weigh 3.6gm.
Similar tweezers are illustrated in Crummy, 1983, The Roman Small Finds From Excavations in Colchester 1971-9, page 59. |
