Title
a medieval spindle whorl
Description
English: A cast lead spindle whorl, probably dating from the post medieval period, AD 1400-1600. It is bi-conical, with a circular, central perforation. Both sides are decorated, being divided into panels by lines radiating from the central perforation. Some of these lines have a large pellet part way along their length. Each panel contains a pellet and has a background of cross-hatched lines forming rough diamond shapes. As is often the case with this type of whorl, there is an indentation in the inner wall of the central perforation. The whorl is 33mm in diameter and 10mm thick. It weighs 46.55gm.
