a medieval spindle whorl
Description
English: A crudely cast lead spindle whorl, probably dating from the late medieval or early post medieval period, AD1400-1600. It is conical in shape. The lower, flat side is plain; the upper side is decorated with a pattern consisting of eight panels separated by raised lines. There are two or three pellets in each panel. The whorl is 31.7mm long, 28.3mm wide and 8.1mm thick. It weighs 28.66gm.
