a medieval spindle whorl
Description
English: A cast, lead alloy spindle whorl, dating from the medieval period, AD1200-1500. It is plano-convex; one side being decorated with a random pattern of raised lines, the other with nine panels, separated by raised lines and each containing one or two raised dots. There is a central, circular perforation with a circular depression in its side wall. The whorl is 30.7mm in diameter and 12.8mm thick. It weighs 51.9gm.
