Title |
a medieval, beehive thimble |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper alloy, beehive thimble, probably dating from AD1400-1500. It is dome shaped, with no division between crown and sides.There are two narrow grooves immediately above the rim; the upper groove being partially occluded by some of the small, round, punched holes. The holes, which cover the wall and top of the thimble are closely spaced and arranged in vertical rows. The thimble has a light green patina. It is slightly squashed; in its present configuration it is 17.2mm in diameter and 19.2mm high. It weighs 5.76gm. |
