As these cells in-crease in number by proliferation theyare filled with fat, and thus the growthacquires bulk. The mass is usuallysurrounded by a capsule of condensedconnective tissue. It is their locali-zation that distinguishes fatty tumorsfrom ordinary obesity. If lipomasrequire treatment they are to be re-moved by means of a free incisionthrough the skin, which enables thesurgeon to turn them out of the cap-sule with great ease. No portion ofthe tumor should be left behind toreproduce the growth. Chondromas or CartilaginousTumors. These growths are found especially ^S fbroid tumors of back (Auamong young patients, and are fre-quently connected with the bones of the fingers. They are rarelydeveloped from preexisting cartilage.
