parts of the stomach and duodenal cap are wellfilled with the barium mixture. If there is a defectin the fundus of the stomach due to pressure of thespine a pillow is placed under the patients hips. Ifthe duodenal cap has not filled, the patient is madeto turn upon the right side and pressure made with thehand over the epigastrium in such a manner as to assistthe filling of the cap. The patient now lies proneagain and three or four pictures are taken at intervalsof about one minute. The patient is then turned uponhis right side and the same procedure followed as forthe prone position. If the first picture taken in thisposition shows no defect in the contour of the cap noothers are taken, but if there is deformity it is neces-sary to take several more in order to determine whetherthe deformity is constant or not. Usually one or tworontgenograms are then taken with the patient erect.Of course, the above procedure is often varied to suitdifferent cases. In patients having much abdominal
